Don Street, Invercargill

This Invercargill 4 storey commercial reinforced concrete building required a detailed seismic assessment (DSA). BMC carried out a DSA and the building was found to be in the ‘earthquake risk’ category (between 34% & 66%NBS capacity).

The owner instructed BMC to complete a detailed design of strengthening works to a minimum of 67%NBS capacity. Geotechnical input was required to determine the soil interaction parameters for the foundation system. Initial computer modelling of the building using ETABS was supplemented with a ‘push over analysis’ to identify progressive ‘failure’ points in the building structure.

Strengthening and support elements were introduced into the building to deal with these ‘failure’ points and provide a robust and economical strengthening solution. Full CAD detail drawings and building consent documentation was provided.
