Graham McDougall - Senior Engineer/Director
CPEng, IntE(NZ), MIPENZ,  BE,

A graduate of Canterbury University Engineering School in 1977 Graham was fortunate to have Professor Park and Paulay and Nigel Priestley as his mentors (names that are synonymous with leading earthquake design throughout the world). Initially Graham worked in Christchurch in a small consultancy firm followed by a 2 year stint in the UK working for a London based consultancy practice. Returning to NZ in 1983 Graham joined TranzRail and held numerous engineering design and management positions covering buildings, cargo handling structures, bridges, large earthworks & tunneling projects, infrastructure maintenance and operations. Graham moved to Wanaka in 2001 with his family attracted to the area by the mountains / skiing and the opportunity to establish his own consultancy practice in partnership with Warren. Two of Graham's brothers are architects and another brother is a builder who have provided a lifetime of practical construction skills blended with theoretical engineering design and experience.
He has bred a family of good skiers, his two son's members of the NZ FreeSki team and two daughters who were ski instructors overseas for several years.

Henry Smeaton - G2 Structural Engineer
GIPENZ, BE (Hons),

Henry joined BMC in January 2010, fresh from Canterbury University's College of Engineering. He developed a keen interest and strength in the Construction Industry from a combination of structural courses undertaken in his Civil Engineering Degree, being able to work for his Grandfather as a timber deck builder throughout his studies, as well as being part of various other construction projects in Christchurch. He is also a keen artist and is grateful to be able to utilise his skills in terms of draughtsmanship in a professional situation. Henry has a passion for Snowboarding and Outdoor activities in general and was naturally drawn to the opportunity of being able to pursue his professional career in the unique and inspiring environment in Wanaka. As of February 2011 he has been "dropped in the deep end" assisting the Team with their commitment to the Christchurch earthquake response. He is enjoying being part of the BMC team as well as learning and gaining insight from the Senior Engineers about the industry.

David Southwick - Engineering Team Leader Christchurch
CPEng, MIPENZ,  BE,

David has been with BMC since April 2011. Having met Warren and Graham during the Civil Defence response after the 22 February Earthquake he was impressed with the BMC ethos of getting things done and was glad to take the opportunity to be part of the BMC team. As team leader he is managing an experienced group of CPEng engineers, all with a strong background in structural engineering. The experience is a rewarding one.

Originally from the Bay of Plenty David obtained an NZCE studying in Hamilton and working in Auckland. He has been based in Christchurch since attending the University of Canterbury obtaining a BE with First Class Honours. Since graduating David has worked on residential, commercial, industrial and multi-storey buildings, along with adventure tourism projects that include flying foxes and structures suspended from cables.

David enjoys the company of his partner and two children, sailing on Lyttelton Harbour, surfing, coaching football, learning guitar, and the challenges of living in Christchurch during a time of adjustment.

Alan Dallas - Senior Engineer Christchurch
CPEng, MIPENZ,  BE, BSc

Alan is originally from Tirau and has worked as a Structural Engineer in many places in New Zealand and also in the U.K. and Singapore. Alan completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) at Auckland in 1984 after studying Earth Science and Maths at Waikato University. Alan has worked on a range of big and small projects for large and small engineering consultancies, including work on Auckland highrise apartments, the Channel tunnel, several milk-powder plants, domestic construction and back-country bridges. Alan is experienced in structural design, asset management and construction management and comes to BMC from the Dept. of Conservation. Although Alan appreciated visiting many wonderful parts of N.Z. he happened to be in Christchurch at a seismic engineering seminar when the earthquake struck on 22 February. He and his partner, along with two daughters, decided to move to Christchurch to help with the recovery effort. Alan is a keen follower of all sports and continues to be a competitive squash player. He has skied in nine countries around the world and would like to spend more time on his mountain bike. Alan has also enjoyed travelling extensively and believes his recollections of third world issues and day-to-day challenges enable him to keep a good perspective on matters back home.

   Glenn Stephenson - Draughtsman

Glenn is  originally from the Waikato where he grew up on a dairy farm. Moving on from the farm environment saw a 10 year career in the armed forces where he picked up a wealth of skills and experiences ranging from management and leadership to many military related qualifications at Instructor level. It was here that he gained his trade in basic land surveying for the direct purposes of surface to surface ballistics. Other experiences include overseas postings to the U.K. Armed Forces, Australia, Asia, South Pacific Islands and deployment as a member of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor UNTAET 2000 - 2001. On leaving the forces he continued with studies in Civil Engineering in Christchurch, with an initial focus on survey. Keen to maintain a more hands on learning approach to construction engineering, he moved into structural draughting four years ago from where he has been building proficiency in 2D & 3D structural design, utilising the latest versions of AutoCad and Revit Structure suites. Glenn is a keen on surfing, snowboarding, rugby and scuba diving, the latter of which he is PADI Specialty Instructor rated. Living in Canterbury has certainly had it's challenge over the last 12 months, however he believes it is a valuable life experience and is very excited to be part of the Christchurch BMC team and the role he will play in the future rebuild of the city and it's region.
