This holiday home designed by Sorted Architecture won the ADNZ Regional Award in 2007.
The structure a combination of stack bonded concrete block, reinforced concrete and timber frame above is built in to the terminal moraine dunes that rim the Kings Drive development.
A high level of finish and crack free reinforced concrete detailing along with the completely open front view face (no bracing panel capacity available) created a minor challenge for the engineering. Temporary stability of the rear earthworks cut during construction required some simple Kiwi ingenuity to solve the problem in a low cost way.
BMC were responsible for both the engineering design and construction monitoring of this project. |
