This single storey Felicity Wallace designed holiday home on the out skirts of Wanaka made great use of exposed concrete block internally and the superior engineering performance (long span capabilities) of Hyspan timber rafters in the skillion roof over the caverness living / dining area. These elements required careful design / detailing to guarantee robust impeccably finished internal surfaces.
The Architect wanted no shrinkage control joints in the block walls that would be visible internally or through the plastered external surfaces (despite the fact some of the walls were over 10m in length).
BMC were responsible for the engineering design / detailing and construction monitoring of this project.
