Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch

Most buildings in Christchurch suffered earthquake damage and this 3-storey building with basement was no exception.

BMC undertook earthquake damage assessments that included; assessment of settlements and consideration of liquefaction effects, computer modelling to gauge lateral displacements, comparison against calculated strength using original plans, and assessment of crack significance. Concrete was broken-out as part of ‘invasive investigations’ whereupon reinforcement content and original construction methods were checked. This enabled appropriate repair techniques to be specified. A quantitative DEE (Detailed Engineering Evaluation) was prepared for and accepted by, CERA. BMC prepared structural engineering documents and drawings for Building Consent, and also assisted in monitoring construction as repair works proceeded.
