This development combines both an architectural and functional purpose. During the development, BMC worked closely with the architect on this evolving project. To deliver a high-end product while maintaining effective communication with the client, to deliver this complex project with minimal disruption to the project time frame.
The showroom building required an airy feel, curtain glazing to all faces and a minimum of visible structure, yet still flexible enough to allow for future alteration. Visible structural sections had to be architecturally sympathetic whilst still capable of delivering a high level of performance required.
Conversely, the design of the workshop building required hard-wearing and functional surfaces capable of withstanding the demands of a year-round servicing centre. Flexibility was required in the structure to allow for the individual vehicle brand’s setup requirements.
Additional challenges faced included complex ground conditions necessitating a minimum level of excavation and seismic separation of the canopy spanning between the two main buildings.
