Wanacare Medical Centre, WanakaIn 2009 the vision of bringing together the medical & related practices in Wanaka into one purpose built facility came to reality with the construction of a new facility. Opus Architects and the client choose BMC to design and detail the ‘Importance Level 3’ (IL 3) structural system for the complex.
BMC structural engineers and drafting technicians worked closely with Opus Architecture to develop an integrated portal frame system for the 3 linked building elements. BMC delivered a high standard of detailing and followed through with a full Construction Monitoring service to deliver this project ‘on time’ and ‘within budget’.
A key part of this was the high standard of detailing that allowed the steel fabricator to work directly from BMC drawings to fabricate all elements in the ‘Shop’ and simply erect and bolt together on site onto ‘isolated’ foundation elements. This enabled the entire working site to be covered prior to slab pours, framing etc allowing the project to proceed through the winter months irrespective of weather.
In 2014 BMC subsequently completed all structural engineering (design / detail / construction monitoring) for the addition of a 4th building element extension.
