Upper Hawthorn Residence, Queenstown

Beautiful, innovative, complex - this dwelling makes the most of its surroundings framed by recycled hardwood, complimented by local schist and kept cosy in a SIP panel wall and roof construction.

This residence comprises three unique styles – scoria red corrugated iron garage with PV panels, owners & guest accommodation clad in local schist and a recycled hardwood and cedar pavilion to take in the views.

The hardwood recycled from Lyttelton harbour required significant scheduling and detailing to enable their inclusion, with concealed fixings and supporting structure these hardwood trusses make the perfect picture frame.

BMC worked very closely with NZ SIP sharing 3D Revit models to assist in coordination ensuring this complex structure and roof form was designed and detailed to achieved the structural and thermal performance the client desired.
